I'm not interested in discussing this - I know most people are going to find it incredibly dull, but it appeals to me. I know the system has Metroid (and backwards compatibility for the earlier games), but what other more mature games does the system have that are actually decent?

I thought it was well done; the cinematography, the development of the story, and the unfolding of the characters. I'm partial to storylines with cynical or sarcastic views of society and mankind, but I didn't think Watchmen was over the top in either direction and so people with different tastes could still enjoy.

LittleBigPlanet and Motorstorm from Sony, Assassins Creed from Ubisoft and Rock Band Unplugged (which is basically a new Amplitude/Frequency but with Rock Bands name) from Harmonix. Also, Shin Megami Tensei: Persona for JRPG fans.

I know Sony said ages ago that the software drying up on the PSP was due yo low interest in the PSP-1000 series, and with the success of the PSP-2000 series they had a huge amount of hardware sales with no new software coming, but shit, I didn't expect this. In addition to Resistance: Retribution, PSP is getting some damn fine releases this year.
Bioware's modern yet still somehow Infinity Engine-esque game Dragon Age will apparently not be meeting its March release date. In an announcement made about an hour ago, Bioware's community coordinator had this to say:
We wanted to give the community a heads-up on a recent decision to move the launch of Dragon Age: Origins for the PC to the last half of 2009. That’s a change from the previously announced date of March 2009.

Why is this happening? Both EA and BioWare are really excited about the potential of the game on both PC and consoles and we want to ensure we deliver a blockbuster, AAA BioWare-quality title - as the game is shaping up so well already. An incredible amount of time and effort has gone into Dragon Age: Origins and this extra time will ensure we deliver the quality kind of launch you have come to expect from our games.

At BioWare, our fans and community have always been top priority, so we wanted to you to hear this news from us first.
So it's the standard deal. "blah blah. need more time. blah. making best game possible. blah blah. CORPORATE OVERLORDS."

Oh well, it might happen! Who knows!?

It's been awhile, but we've got excuses. We're good at excuses.

What are our excuses? Have you SEEN the games that are out right now? Gears of War 2, Fallout 3, Fable 2, Dead Space, Chrono Trigger, Mother 3, Left 4 Dead, Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia, Dragon Quest IV. I'm sure I'm missing some. Or lots. Still, that's a ton of Good Gaming.

And personally, I've been busy with this whole "graduating from college" thing, which required a bit more focus than I'm used to.

Anyway, we're back, and we've got two reviews that have been sitting here for awhile, just waiting for Mr Editor to get off his ass and . . you know . . edit them.

World of Goo (PC) - Highly Recommended
The art and design of the game immediately made me wonder if Tim Burton or Terry Gilliam, or even Tim Schafer had had a hand in it at some point. The heavy shadows and industrial set decoration at some points evoke a vaguely disturbing feeling of elementary school paranoia, but tempered with cartoony foregrounds and the boundless enthusiasm of the blobs themselves as they move about and exclaim things when they attach to structures.
Dead Space (360/PS3/PC) - Highly Recommended
Glen Schofield and his team at EA Redwood Shores deserve the best kind of acclaim for what they have done here. Instead of trying to reinvent the wheel, or, alternatively, cranking out a feeble clone of a popular game, they have instead created an original IP that takes everything good from all the best examples of the horror game archetype and forges them together in a cohesive, fun, and brilliantly polished whole.
Now that the backlog of material is cleared, we promise to get back to regularly writing about the wonderful ridiculous world of the gaming industry.
Dead Space Discussion (SPOILERS)

I didn't want to sully up the other thread with frank discussion about the plot. But I beat the game last night and just wanted to give some introspective about the story. I have yet to look through the backlogs, but I am going through it again, although pissed you have to actually buy the military suite (for 99,000 credits no less).

First off: What the Hell was up with sending 5 people into a situation the military knew full well was going to be a slaughter? They weren't even equipped with weapons that were terribly effective against the necromorphs. The plasma-cutter and line-gun are by far much more effective than the pulse gun. If this was just a repair mission, no big deal. But that one chick knew what they were going in to. Why would she risk her neck by flying in with just a few grunts and a wrench-jockey?

And what was up with 1 necromorph killing an entire crew of a military ship? They require the giant bat necros to create new ones, so it was just one standard necro that killed them all. And considering even in close quarters, you can beat one to death with your bare-hands, I'm sure they could have come up with something. Look, I know you have to setup the plot, and a good story can walk through plot-holes, but just like in aliens when they left no one on the Sullaco(sp), it just reeks of bad writing. There were numerous other ways they could have handled just these two plot holes, and it annoyed me.

I had Isaac's girlfriend down to two possible options early on in the game. She was either A. already some kind of human necro or B. already dead and likely a hallucination based upon the logs about everyone flipping out. I would have stuck with B if they hadn't had the whole scene where you finally meet and she opens a door for you while you fight to keep the necros off of her. I understand the desire to keep you on your toes, but that was a little over the top when a person who doesn't exist is altering things in the physical world. So, it threw me in the wrong direction, but not for a good reason. I don't like writers thinking they're so fucking cool they can trick me when the way in which they pulled it off is complete bullshit. It removes a lot of the satisfaction.

Sure, I had strong suspicions that my character was Revan in KOTOR, but I didn't know. It was only a very real possibility, among others. When the time finally came, and they showed the cut scenes for clues (some of which I had picked up on, others which I had ignored as superfluous), there was a sense of satisfaction along with the shock of a plot twist. Dead Space lacked that because I had completely removed a possibility from my mind based upon an observed instance. It took hold again (that she was dead) when your girlfriend didn't just tractor in the shuttle herself, but it still didn't fit. Maybe I missed something, but your first meeting with her was important from a plot perspective and gameplay perspective. They should have thought it out better. The end part was more a "WTF, that's not possible" than a "Holy Shit, she's DEAD and I'm a tool!?" BTW: Bioshock plot anyone?

Oh, and the one crazy scientist dude who was driving steaks into everyone's skull. I was hoping and looking forward to a chance to kill his ass. But alas, when I finally do kill him, I managed to stasis the bat necro that was converting him and killed them both without any issues. Major letdown.

Other than some small nit-picks though, excellent game. Even on the second play-through it's still a little intense. I keep finding myself running down hallways and getting jumped by aliens I forgot were there, so at least it can still creep me out a bit.
